This year, since we are spending most of the year in Moab, there won’t be that much “Road Trip”, but I will still be posting events, small adventures and special pictures throughout the year.  The latest events will be here at the top, so scroll down to go back in time and see our previous adventures throughout the year.

December 31  |  Sportin the new Christmas presents

December 30  |  This is it, the end of the year.  A new decade awaits.

December 24

December 23  |  Fieldwork Brewing in the Oxbow Market, Napa, California

December 16  |  It’s a lovely day at the beach in Northern California.  It’s about 60 degrees here today.  We are currently in Moss Landing taking a week off from Napa.  The Napa Valley Expo only allows 28 days in one reservation.  So we have to hit the road for a week, then we are headed back on the 21st.  We’ll be in Napa again until January 18th, 2020.

December 14  |  Xena now has her own Instagram Account.  It’s another great way to see what we are doing on our travels.

December 12  |  Finally a nice rain free sunset in Napa, California

November 30  |  I’m bored 😦

November 29  |  It’s nice to have the kids out for Thanksgiving again this year.  Third Annual Napa/San Francisco Trip

November 21 |  This will be our motto for the winter

November 10 |  Final Day at the Moab KOA – We just finished up and kicked out the last guest this morning, gonna pack our stuff and head out.  Napa Valley, here we come…

October 2 – 4  |  On our days off this week we decided to go out into the BLM lands and spend a little time in the quiet surroundings of Moab.  I am always looking at the latest trailers and campers to find that next one that would be cool enough to buy, and I came across a small company here in Moab that rents teardrop trailers.  Red Rock Base Camps will rent you a fully stocked trailer and deliver it to your campsite.  So all you have to do is show up and start enjoying the evening.  So we grabbed a site in Gold Bar Campground and had the trailer delivered.  It was awesome.  And since the Corona Arch Trail is right across the street, we hiked the trail with Xena the next morning.

September 25  |  My next rig – a Dodge 3500 Diesel with 40 inch tires, with a Four Wheel Camper on the back.  This rig can go anywhere you want.

September 24  |  Happy 2nd Birthday Xena

August 8 – Pocatello KOA – Nice little grassy spot with power and water.  Not bad for a “roadside motel” of campgrounds.

August 7 – Springville / Provo KOA, Provo, Utah

August 6 – West Glenwood KOA, Silt, Colorado …  Our first night on our “Escape From Moab Tour”  We decided to take about six weeks off from the Moab KOA work Kamper thing and go to some cooler climates, Montana particularly.  See ya soon Whitefish.

July 31 – August 1 – Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado

July 11 – Hurrah Pass on the Kane Creek Trail

July 7 – Thanks David.  These are awesome.

June 25 – July 2    Decided I needed a little time off from the work and heat of Moab, so a 2394 mile road trip to Whitefish, Montana was in order.  This is the first time I have done an extended trip on my motorcycle, by myself.  It’s kinda nice because you can go where you want, when you want, get up early and ride if you want, and you don’t have to wait for your friends to pack their shit in the morning and you don’t have to have a vote on where to have lunch.  (Or to even have lunch at all)  So, here are some of the shots along the way…

Day 1 – Southwestern Wyoming along US 30

Camping at the Montpelier KOA

Day 2 – Salt Lake City KOA …  I had to take a small southern detour to visit the Triumph dealer in Salt Lake.  Had to replace my bald rear tire.  It was done.

Day 3  Rest stop in the Bitterroot Valley, Central Idaho

Tonight’s camp spot is the Challis Hot Springs Resort, parked under an olive tree

Day 4 – Whitefish, Montana – camping in the West Glacier KOA tonight.  Beautiful campground tucked up in the mountains about 12 miles from Columbia Falls.

Lunch at the Bonsai Brewing Project, Whitefish, Montana

Day 5 – Camping tonight in the Columbia Falls RV Park – small but it works

Day 6 – Headed back to Moab today – camped again in the Challis Hot Springs

Day 7 – One of the fantastic views in Central Idaho on my way back to Salt Lake City for the night

June 11

June 4 – On my way to Telluride

May 27 – May 29 –  Took a little “weekend” trip up to West Glenwood Springs / Silt, Colorado KOA.  One of the nicest KOA parks we have stayed in.  Right on top of the Colorado River and usually always great weather.

May 11 – Mitchell received his degree in Business today from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) – we are so proud of his accomplishments.  He has already secured his first real job with a company in McLean, VA.  Good luck with the new job Mitchell.  We knew you could do it.

April 26 – Kane Creek Canyon

April 19 – April 21 –  White Rim Trail three day adventure with my buddies Dick, Tom, Mitch, Sandy, Amy, Eric and Jeff

April 10 – Rain and 36 degrees today in Moab.  But taking a drive up the La Sal Loop to 7,000 feet it is a whole different story.  Looks like eight inches of snow up there, so far.

April 7 – One of our favorite dogs ever, Baron, had to leave us today after seventeen great years.  We enjoyed every bit of our time together during our trips to Alaska to visit you and your parents, Ian and Kristina.  Spending that wonderful time with you was one of the main reasons we wanted to finally get a dog of our own.

Baron had a cute way of tapping your leg while we ate dinner, just reminding you that he was there and a treat might be appreciated.  Our dog Xena has also learned how to tap for a treat. We have now coined the phrase “You just got Baroned” because of your sweet reminders.  We will miss you my sweet friend.  God Speed!

March 28 – Lock Hart Basin Road

March 27 – Onion Creek

March 21 – Castle Valley

March 19 – Happy Birthday Ian Goodwin

March 17 – Even Tigers love Moab.  Long Canyon Road.

March 16 – Now the KTM is finally a dirt bike…  Out on the Kane Creek Canyon Trail

March 15 – Sunrise over the La Salle Mountains.

March 12

March 6 – Just picked up my new KTM 350 EXC-F in Tucson.  It was worth the drive since I saved $2,500 off list price by getting a leftover 2018.

March 2 – Xena decided she was going to dig a hole.  To find bunnies, I guess.

February 23 – What’s the best way to thaw a frozen water pipe at the campground?  Hairdryer, of course.

February 18 – Incredible snow storm in Moab – 10 inches in all.

February 11, 2019 – Snow in Moab this morning.  Something you rarely see here.

February 9, 2019 – Took a little road trip out to Telluride, Colorado.  It is only about 128 miles from Moab.  Took us just about 2 and a half hours to get out there.  I had never been there before, so it was a special treat to finally get to see it.  The scenery here is spectacular.

February 6, 2019 – Canyonlands National Park

February 3, 2019 – While I was in Denver picking up some stuff from storage, I went by the Earth Roamer store in Dacono to check out the cool rigs they have used for sale.  This one here is a 2008 with all the trimmings for $185,000.  What a deal since you figure that this truck was $400,000 when it was new 10 years ago.  I want one.

January 1, 2019 – Xena says Happy New Year – Let’s make it a good one.  This year we are spending a bulk of the year in Moab, working and playing.  We will be here from February 1 to November 10.  It will be awesome to spend so much time in one of my favorite spots in the entire United States.
